The No.3 Heavy Service windlass is designed for yachts and exploration vessels; it offers a fully dual-redundant operating platform. Many modern windlasses are built with a back-up manual capability which is inferior to the main, powered function. The No.3 Heavy Service windlass however, can be operated manually with a massive 9:1 reduction plus the option of a higher ratio for more rapid retrieval.

This windlass can be configured with single or dual chain gypsies and one or two warping drums, each of which can be operated independently. It can be powered with 12v or 24v as standard, but it can be adapted to operate with other electrical sources and also a hydraulic supply.
